Gather 'round, lovebirds and love-losers alike – it's that time of the year again: Valentine's Day!
At Studio Ochenta, we're raising a glass to celebrate the one-year anniversary since we brought Love Items, our rom-com fiction podcast, into the world.
Back in February of 2023, when we launched the show, we delved into deep contemplation about the state of love in our modern world, pondering relationships and the myriad ways humans navigate this complex emotion.
While creating this show, we put ourselves to the test in three fundamental things: revamping the rom-com genre, keeping episodes short and sweet, and translating them into three different languages (...four this year, but mum's the word!)
You see, Love Items isn't your average podcast. It's a delightful and magical blend of romance and AI, like mixing unexpected ice cream flavors that somehow just work. Picture Renée Zellweger in Bridget Jones's Diary, only instead of pen and paper, she's armed with an Alexa to navigate her love life.
That's the essence of Cloe and Eloc's story in Love Items.
Our podcast consists of 25 bite-sized episodes, each around 5 minutes long. Why the brevity, you ask? Well, after some research, we discovered that in today's fast-paced world, people appreciate quick doses of entertainment to fit into their busy lives.
But our search for speed goes beyond this research. Love Items draws inspiration not only from '90s rom-coms but also from beloved sitcoms like Friends and Seinfeld. In fact, Cloe and Eloc engage in witty banter reminiscent of those classic shows.
This brings us to one of Studio Ochenta’s dearest topics: adaptation. We often hear the phrase "Love is a universal language," and while there's truth to that, translating love into English, Spanish, and French (and one more secret language) is no small feat!
Love Items is brimming with references to movies and songs, and in each language we've translated it into, we've aimed to capture the diversity of those cultural elements.
